The International Olympic Committee(IOC) is positive about inter-Korean collaboration at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games proposed by the South Korean Culture and Sports Minister Do Jong-hwan.

According to the BBC, an IOC spokesperson said that his organization is looking at the minister’s idea with great interest and is happy to discuss it. The spokesperson stressed that the Olympic movement is always about building bridges, never about erecting walls.

During his visit to the PyeongChang Olympic facilities on Tuesday, the minister expressed his willingness to hold some skiing events at the North’s Masikryong Ski Resort and to include some North Korean regions in an Olympic torch relay route. He said that he is hoping to visit the North Korean ski resort and seek ways to utilize it if possible.

Minister Do is scheduled to meet with IOC President Thomas Bach and Chang Ung, the North’s delegate to the IOC, at the World Taekwondo Championships, which opens in Muju, North Jeolla Province, on Saturday. The minister plans to seek cooperation from them about the idea of having the North host some skiing events.

According to Japan’s Kyodo News, the North Korean official told reporters in China that he will learn more about the proposal after arriving in South Korea.
